MADAM PRESIDENT AND COUNCIL MEMBERS: Last Week You Voted By Resolution To Give The Police Chief And/Or His Four Lieutenants The Right To Hire As Many Officers Needed To Reach 76 On The Street. With This Being Said And Voted On For The Obvious Reasons That We Have At Least 4 To 5 Injured On And Off Duty, One Passed Away, And 4 To 5 Possible Retirements, That's 11 And That's What You Hired Or Are Going To Hire This Year. You Have Asked Mrs. Rogers How Can It Get That Low, Well You Were In The Audience Last Year And Now You Are On Council. It Gets That Low When Council Members Fight, Argue And Bicker, And Don't Pay Attention To The People Who Run The Department And You Don't Hire Immediately After Retirements, Promotions And Injuries. So Please Lets Stop The Nonsense. You Don't Have To Like One Other But Should Respect One Another. You Shouldn't Be Fighting In The Newspapers – The Department Heads Should Comment To The Newspapers –They Know What They're Talking About. So Again, I Say For The Health, Safety And Welfare Of This Community And The Resolution You Passed Last Week, Let The Chief And His Lieutenants Do Their Job And Get The Hiring List Together. I Believe The Next Academy Is In August. You Approved To Hire 11 – With The Injured And Retirements That Could Mean You Would Be Down 1 Officer From Last Years Budget. So Your 11 Turns Into A Negative One – You Need To Hire At Least Including Your 11 And An Additional 12 Just To Put You Around 70. We Cannot Jeopardize This Community Any Longer. You Agreeded To 76, Let's Stay The Course And When The Chief Brings His List, Ratify It.
