MAYOR SAMUEL FENTON REPORT FOR 8/18/05
Daisy Myers Day Went Well, 85 Copies Of Her Book Sticks And Stones Were Purchased. I Would Like To Invite Her Back To Our Multicultrual Event In January To Sign Copies Of Her Book. I Purchased Daisy’s Autographed Book And Presented It To Bristol Township School Board Member Sherri Champy To Donate To The School Library.
I Would Like To Thank State Representative Anthony Melio For His Support Of Bristol Township And Our Weed And Seed Committee Through Grant Monies To Provide The Much Needed Programs For The Freedom I Neighborhood.
PUBLIC SAFETY ISSUE
Last Week Bristol Township Police Began Distributing Fliers And Mug Shot And Stating That The Court Recently Declared Mr. Leddington Living In The Croydon Section Of Our Township A “Sexually Violent Predator” Under Megan’s Law. We Are The First Bucks County Police Department That Has Had To Follow The Law’s Community Notification Procedures. It Was The Killing Of A New Jersey Girl, 7 Year Old Megan Kanka In 1994 That Led To The Creation Of Sex Offender Registration Laws Nationwide. Now New Laws Are Sparked By The Killing In Florida Of 9 Year Old Jssica Lunsford. Alabama, Florida, Missouri, Ohio, Oklahoma, And Recently New Jersey Have Approved Laws For Electronic Tracking Of Sex Offenders Classified As The Most At Risk To Repeat Their Offenses. This Global Positioning System, Or
G P S Technology, Communicates With Satellites Keeping Track Of The Exact Location Of Those Wearing G P S Devices. I Would Like To Thank Police Chief James Mcandrew And Our Police Department For The Fine Job They Did Implementing The Requirement Of The Megan’s Law.
For The Health, Safety And Welfare Of Our Children, Tonight I Am Asking The Support Of Bristol Township Council, Our State Representatives Anthony Melio And Tom Corrigan, And Our State Senator Tommy Tomlinson To Lead The Commonwealth Of Pennsylvania In Introducing A Law To Be Signed By Governor Rendell That Directs The State Parole Board To Create A Program Using Satellite Based Tracking To Monitor - 24 Hours A Day - 7 Days A Week - Sex Offenders Most At Rick To Repeat Crimes Against Our Children. I Would Also Like To See Tougher Sentences For These Offenders.
APPROVAL –
At This Time I Want To Call On Councilwoman Karen Lipsack To Discuss Her Proposed Ordinance Which Regulates The Places Where Convicted Sex Offenders May Live In The Township.
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
I Am Asking Council Support In Working With Bob White Of The Bucks County Redevelopment Authority And Our Solicitor Russ Sacco To See What We Can Do Legally About Making The Property Owners In The Edgely Industrial Park To Inprove Their Roads To Meet Township Standers Because They Are Unsafe For The Fire Companies And Emergency Management To Travel On, Also To Send Out Code Enforcement Out To These Propertis And Bring Every Property Into Compliance With Our Standards
APPROVAL –
I Would Like To Urge The Owner Of The Old 3m Properties To Try To Work Out A Deal With Mr. Night To Make 3m Property A Permanent Site For His Production Company. This Would Bring In Much Needed Revenue.
APPOINTMENTS
At This Time I Would Like To Present The Nane Of Thomas Mcdermott To Serve On The Bristol Township Comprehensive Plan Committee Until Its’ Adoption.
APPROVAL –
I Read Today With Great Surprise An Article In The Courier Times That Councilman Worthington Was Interested In Changing The Township’s Current Form Of Government. I Was Surprised Because Mr. Worthington Has Always Expressed To Me That He Was Proud Of Our Many Recent Achievements. Services Are Being Improved, Roads Are Being Fixed, New Parks Have Been Created And Old Ones Rejuvenated. We Have Started Many New Programs, Community Garden, Summer Recreation, Basketball, Football, The Easter Egg Hunt, The Martin Luther King Multicultural Celebration, The Harvest Fest, The Holiday Tree Lighting, The Weed And Seedcommittee, No Place For Hate, And The New Township Flags And Banners. There Is More Work To Be Done. I For One Do Not Want To Return To The Old Days Where The Township Was Divided Into Wards And There Was No Unity, Pride Or Common Identity. During Those Days, The Township Was Going Nowhere, Because The Self Interest And Influence Of A Very Small Number Of People Outweighed The Interests Of The Community As A Whole.
It Was Changed From The Form Of Government That Ken Worthington Speaks Of In The 1980’s To The Present Form Of Government Because It Didn’t Work Then. Why Would We Go Backwards, We Must Keep Moving Forward. Now Everyone Is Represented And We Are Elected At Large So Ervryone Has A Voice In Who They Elect. Before The Township Was Divided Into Wards Therefore People Were Naturally Divided. We Are All One Now. We Must Work Together And Keep Building The Bridge To Keep Bristol Township Moving Forward And Together.
