Fire Marshal The Bristol Township Fire Marshal’s Office is responsible for a wide variety of duties. This information explains the basic duties, responsibilities, and services provided by this office. The Fire Marshal’s Office is staffed by a full time Fire Marshal and 7 Fire Inspectors/Firefighters. One of the Fire Inspectors/Firefighters also serves as the Deputy Fire Marshal. The Fire Marshal’s office is responsible for enforcing the fire code, laws, and local ordinances as they pertain to fire safety in the interest of the health, safety, and welfare of the township. One of the key methods to accomplish this task is the annual fire safety inspections performed by the Fire Inspectors. These inspections take place in every commercial and industrial building, as well as schools and non-profit organizations. The Fire Inspectors also perform fire safety inspections of the individual apartments within the apartment complexes. In addition to the inspections conducted by the Fire Inspectors, the Fire Marshal will review all non-residential construction plans, as it pertains to the installation of fire detection and suppression systems, as well as life safety issues such as emergency lighting and proper means of egress. The Fire Marshal is responsible for investigating the origin and cause of significant or serious fires. When the Fire Marshal determines the cause of a fire to be arson, the Fire Marshal will work closely with Bristol Township Police Detectives as they conduct the criminal investigation. The Fire Marshal will also work closely with the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office in the prosecution of suspects related to arson. The Fire Marshal’s Office serves as a liaison between the township administration and the local volunteer Fire Companies and Rescue Squads. On a monthly basis the Fire Marshal facilitates a meeting involving the 5 township fire companies, 2 rescue squads, and the police department, to share information and discuss issues of mutual interest. The Fire Marshal’s Office offers free fire safety checks to residents, and will assist residents should they need assistance changing the batteries in their smoke detectors. FREE smoke detectors are available to residents who can not afford them. While on duty during weekdays, the Fire Marshal and Fire Inspectors play a key role in emergency response and will assist the volunteer Fire Companies by responding to fire calls. The personnel within the Fire Marshal’s Office are cross trained as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT’s) and will respond to certain medical emergencies within the township. Each vehicle is equipped with firefighting gear and emergency medical equipment such as oxygen and an AED (automatic external defibrillator). Some helpful links:
